Proprietor Riccardo Campinoti crafts delicate, refined wines. One of Montalcino's generation of emerging young producers, Campinoti has achieved considerable success in a very short time. Campinoti describes 2011 as a year that turned extremely hot in mid-August. Sugars raced ahead, but phenolic ripeness lagged. By the time the tannins had ripened, alcohols were in the 15% range. Campinoti chose to bottle his single-parcel wines, also gave his 2011 Brunellos three full years in oak. In my view, 2011 was not a vintage suited to making multiple Brunello bottlings, but ultimately time will tell. What seems to me much more obvious is that these wines would have benefitted from having been bottled earlier rather than spending three years in oak. All three 2011 Brunellos are advanced in color and generally faded in their fruit profiles. Lastly, there will be no 2014 Brunello at Le Ragnaie at all. In a year in which Campinoti describes as 'having no sun', the best fruit was used for the Rosso.
