Vicky Schmitt and Guido Vitali run this small estate in Panzano. Most of the vineyards are north facing, basically the opposite exposure of Panzano’s fabled Conca d’Oro. These were once considered less-favored sites, but climate change has changed perceptions about what is favorable and not. Biodynamic farming and low intervention winemaking are the rule. Sangiovese really shines in reds that can achieve notable finesse and character. There is some Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon on the estate, a remnant of the time when international varieties were in vogue, but the wines that include them are rarely as satisfying.
