I was quite taken with these two Brunellos from La Torre, as they represent a much higher level of quality than I have seen here previously, which is obviously very good to see. At their best, the Brunellos capture a hugely appealing stylistic middle ground that incorporates influences from hillside vineyards in the southern reaches of Montalcino along with fairly traditional approach to winemaking, a pretty appealing combination, in my view. Hopefully these wines represent a move towards a higher and more consistent level of quality. Montalcino needs more top-level estates. It appears La Torre could very well develop into one of them.
