After moving out of the narrow cellars of the Aschrott estate that he purchased in 1996 and into the more spacious quarters that were once occupied by the Hochheim sparkling wine company, Gunter Kunstler had the opportunity to play his hand in full in 2007. His strong suit-and the vast majority of his production-has always been dry rieslings, and this year he made numerous very good wines in this style. Although he also made some spatleses, I have only tasted the kabinetts from the 2007 vintage. (Rudi Wiest) Also recommended: 2007 Hochheimer Holle Riesling Kabinett Trocken (86), 2007 Hochheimer Stielweg Riesling Trocken Old Vines (87), 2007 Hochheimer Kirchenstuck Riesling Kabinett Trocken (88), 2007 Hochheimer Domdechaney Riesling Trocken (89), 2007 Hochheimer Holle Riesling Kabinett (88). Also tasted: 2007 Riesling Trocken.
