"The 2006 crop brought the highest pHs and sugar levels we've ever seen," said Ken Wright. "The summer of 2006 was a full-on drought, and the vines were shutting down in mid-September and the fruit beginning to dehydrate." A half-inch of rain fell in the third week of September, which provided a bit of relief and got the vines working again, he went on. "The seeds ripened, the grapes' flesh softened and loosened up, and we got wines with big, powerful and ripe fruit-and a good quantity of it."
