Ken Forrester and his winemaking consultant Martin Meinert have managed to fashion a brilliant chenin blanc from the tricky 2004 harvest, and this producer's wines continue to offer terrific value in the international marketplace-as well as enough fruit to awaken the deadest palate.Forrester told me that the grenache he blends with syrah comes from the only planting of this variety in Stellenbosch and dates back 50 years."Grenache was once 11% of total production in the Cape," he told me, "but the variety was too susceptible to downy mildew."
