Rebecca George follows up her stellar 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon with the fabulous 2016, which is every bit as outstanding from bottle as it was from barrel last year. Proprietor Kelly Fleming has put together an all star team that also includes vineyard manager Mike Wolf and consulting winemaker Françoise Peschon, which is about as good as it gets. That commitment to quality comes through in the wines. Readers who have not yet tasted the Kelly Fleming wines owe it to themselves to do it. This Calistoga vineyard at the end of Pickett Road and near Kenefick Ranch, Eisele Vineyard and Hundred Acre's Few and Far Between, has produced a positively stellar set of wines over the last few vintages.

I was completely floored by the Cabernets I tasted from Kelly Fleming this year. Winemaker Rebecca George takes this small Calistoga estate to unprecedented heights with her dazzling 2015 and 2016 Cabernets. Mike Wolf farms the vineyard and Françoise Peschon consults, which is as good a team as there is anywhere in the valley. Readers who appreciated Napa Valley Cabernets with structure will flip out over these wines.

I continue to be impressed with the wines Rebecca George is making at Kelly Fleming. George has brought a great deal of thought to the property since she arrived in 2011. In particular, the work being done today to achieve ripeness at lower sugars is intriguing given the tendency of vineyards in this sector of Calistoga to produce somewhat unbalanced wines. In 2014, harvest stretched over 30 days, as moderate September weather allowed for relaxed picking in a vintage that produced both high yields and equally high quality. Conditions were more irregular in 2015, and all the fruit was harvested within a seven day window.
