The entire collection in 2023 is immensely pure and expressive–from the dry Rieslings via gorgeous Spätlese, Auslese and an otherworldly TBA. Andreas Spreitzer notes that the vegetation started later in 2023, “which was a good thing.” He reports a “cooler, challenging year with a rainy summer, the kind of vintage that also tells the wheat from the chaff.” He adds that “settled, warm, sunny weather rescued the year during harvest,” with the Rheingau “escaping the fate that people met further south.” He emphasizes that selective hand harvesting was key. Picking for the main Riesling started on September 22 and finished on October 8–except for an Eiswein harvested in January 2024, which still ferments and is not ready to be tasted. Spreitzer notes one rainy day during harvest, on October 3, with all the GGs picked on October 1 and 2.
