There are a number of ups and downs in the Jerrman portfolio this year. I found the 2021 Capo Martino, a blend of white indigenous grapes, to be one of the best interpretations of this single-vineyard wine I’ve yet to taste. The Vintage Tunina, a blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia and small amounts of Picolit, and Where Dreams Have No End, a varietal Chardonnay, while nicely balanced, struggle to justify their lofty price points. As for the Red Angel (Pinot Nero), I’m not sure what happened here, but the two bottles I tasted were underperforming. On a bright note, as mentioned last year, the Antinori family acquired the winery several years ago and began slowly replanting vineyards to make better use of varieties, clones and expositions. It will take some time, but I’m looking forward to seeing the results of these changes.
