The Chiquet brothers have decided to give their 2008 single-parcel wines a bit more time in the cellar, so these are the current releases from Jacquesson this year. The Cuvée 740, which is based on 2012, is an especially fine Champagne that will also give readers a good idea of the style of the year. On that subject, the trend for the 740 Series going forward will be to showcase the base vintage more by lowering the percentage of reserve wines in the blends.

This is an intriguing set of new releases, as the wines span the two eras of the house's recent history. The two late-disgorged 2000s harken back to a time when Jacquesson pursued more conventional farming techniques and made quite a bit more wine than they do today. In fact, the 2000s basically taste like the wines of another house. For my money, the 700 series continues to be one of the best relative values in Champagne.
