In a very short time, Hundred Suns has leapt into the big leagues of Oregon Pinot Noir, producing wines of sharp detail, complexity and elegance that have already garnered a large audience. Grant Coulter has a solid and noteworthy background, with stints at Hamacher, Beaux Frères (for a full ten years) and, finally, Flâneur. Coulter has continued to expand this personal project, launched in 2015. In addition to gaining access to some very serious vineyards, he now has 4.5 acres of his own in the Eola-Amity Hills, purchased in 2018 with his wife, Renée Saint-Amour. Whole-cluster fermentations are the rule here, and the wines are raised with minimal new oak presence, usually absolutely none at all. These are extremely impressive wines that display a deft blend of power and finesse, with strong fruit and floral expressions.
