My tasting at Heitz was one the clear highlights of the several weeks I spent in Napa Valley this past fall. Winemaker Brittany Sherwood, a Heitz veteran for more than a decade, has given these wines an added dimension of polish while retaining the classic Heitz style, not an easy feat by any measure. As always, the Cabernets are fermented in wood uprights, without malolactic fermentation. The wines are then aged in wood for two years, followed by two years in bottle prior to release.
