Anyone who associates the Micky Mouse ears of this estate’s neck label with that cartoon character doesn’t understand Riesling. He would probably be better served knowing that Goldtröpfchen, the name of this winery’s most famous site, actually means "golden drop," a perfect description of some or their finest wines. That said, my favorite Spätlese this year actually came from the Ohligsberg vineyard in neighboring Wintrich. In any case, Theo Haart and his son Johannes have every reason to be pleased with the 2013 crush. While dry Rieslings now form an important part of their portfolio and can be among the best of any given vintage, 2013 again worked better for those wines with a trace of residual sugar.
