Kevin Judd left LVMH-owned Cloudy Bay after 25 years to set up his own label, Greywacke, in 2009. It's now one of Marlborough's most respected producers, particularly in the white department. Unsurprisingly, given Judd’s background, Sauvignon Blanc is the main event. Of his two Sauvignons, the Wild Sauvignon provides the most intrigue for the high-involvement wine consumer. In a funky style, it is wild-fermented in barrel, which can take up to a year to complete, and a portion undergoes malolactic conversion. Even in the challenging vintages of 2017 and 2018, Judd weaves his magic.
