Giorgio Pelissero's 2014s are just as good from bottle as they were from barrel. The wines have shut down considerably, though, so they really do need to be cellared for at least a few years to be at their best. If opened young, the 2014s need quite a bit of air. The 2015s are much more charming, seductive and immediate. It will be interesting to see if the 2015s shut down after bottling or not. As always, Giorgio Pelissero crafts forward, fruit-driven Barbarescos long on personality.

This is another set of gorgeous wines from Giorgio Pelissero. The 2013 Nebbiolos were brought in between October 18 and 26, which is very much on the late side by the estate's standards. Pelissero is among the growers who gives his wines longer aging than is now the custom. The 2013 Barbarescos spent two full years in oak (a combination of cask and barriques) and then two months in steel prior to bottling, with the Vanotu seeing the highest percentage of new French oak. Pelissero's flagship Nebbiolo/Barbera Long Now is aged exclusively in French oak, most of it new. I also tasted a few 2014s from barrel. Those wines point to another highly promising vintage at Pelissero.
