Vincent Laval makes some of the idiosyncratic and compelling wines in Champagne. Working with estate vineyards in Cumières, Laval crafts wines built on tension and energy and bottles them with little or no dosage. In recent years, the wines seem to have acquired greater purity and finesse. Moreover, the wines seem to have less of the stark austerity of years past. Laval’s 2021s are particularly superb and also show what was possible in this very challenging harvest. Readers will note that two wines in this range are bottled under the new Vincent Laval brand.
