All the fruit was in when I stopped by Futo in late September. Judging by the wines I tasted in tank, the 2013 has gotten off to a rousing start. Proprietor Tom Futo and Winemaker Jason Exposto discuss the vintage in this short video. The new and upcoming releases are every bit as stellar. The 2010s have lived up to or exceeded my early impressions while the 2011s are some of the best wines of that year. Futo fans can look forward to a new Cabernet Sauvignon from Tom Futo's home estate with the 2012 vintage. In 2011, Exposto approached the vintage by opening up the canopies in June. Once the fruit was in the cellar, Exposto did more co-fermentations than usual. Temperatures were kept on the low side during fermentation. The 2011s spent about three months longer than normal on the lees and the wines were not racked at all during elevage . In just a few short years, Futo, Exposto and General Manager Joshua Lowell have built a truly world class estate. These wines are stunning. It's as simple as that.
