This is a stellar showing from Fratelli Alessandria. I have been a fan of these wines for many years now and am happy to report that the estate continues on an upward trajectory in terms of quality. Because of the timing of my tastings, I usually see these Barolos just before bottling, which is not optimal as the wines aren't at their most flattering. I was not surprised to see the 2018s show better from bottle this year than they did from tank last year. The 2019s are another step forward. Vittore Alessandria gave his wines 25 days on the skins. Aging was 34-36 months in cask. What I appreciate most about these classically built Barolos are their deep expression of site and overall character.

I tasted all the Fratelli Alessandria wines from tank prior to bottling and will be publishing an update on the bottled wines soon. Vittore Alessandria gave his 2018s 30 days on the skins. Malos were done in tank after which the wines were racked into oak. At this stage, the 2018s look promising. Fans of the estate will want to make a point of visiting the Alessandria family's new hotel in the center of Verduno. I saw it just as the final stages of work were being completed and was quite impressed.
