Since its establishment in 1988, the isolated Frankland Estate has established a track record for producing some of Australia’s best Rieslings, especially dry versions. Their 40 hectares of vineyards are sited inland where the climate is dry, but still strongly influenced by the cold winds of the nearby Southern Ocean coast. The Smith family’s Rieslings are typically steely, sharply focused and show real tension and energy, even when compared to Rieslings from the Clare Valley, which has long been the most well-known region in the country for that variety. They wonderfully age and can easily be mistaken for high-end Austrian and German wines.
