Feudo Montoni is a magnificent estate to visit, with gorgeous scenery everywhere, a pretty villa, and mostly very old vines (50 years of age and up, but many are pre-phylloxeric and well over 100 years old). In 2019, owner Fabio Sireci planted two more hectares of vines, one to Catarratto Lucido and one to Perricone (locally called Guarnaccio), all via massal selections from preexisting Montoni vines (the Catarratto vines are pre-phylloxeric, the Perricone roughly 70–80 years old). The 2016 vintage was a tough year for the whites at Feudo Montoni, while the 2017s are back in top form and among the best the estate has ever made. The reds are outstanding, and the Nero d’Avola Selezione Vrucara (along with one or two of the crus from Gulfi) is simply the country’s best Nero d’Avola wine. The recently released 2015 is another work of art.
