La Rivolta is an outstanding producer of rich, rather large-scale wines from the Taburno area of Campania, near Benevento toward Puglia. Less well known than Taurasi, the Taburno is yet another extinct volcano associated with its own Aglianico biotype, which tends to give wines higher in acidity (the Taburno Aglianico biotype is known locally as Aglianico Amaro not because it is bitter, but because it is more acid and tangy than other Aglianico biotypes) and with stronger notes of tobacco than the usually more floral Taurasi. La Rivolta also produces one of Italy’s best Coda di Volpe Bianca wines; hardly surprising, given that the variety has adapted very well over the centuries to the Taburno terroir, an area where outstanding Coda di Volpe Bianca wines are common.
