Farella is one of the most distinctive sites in Napa Valley, as the best wines in this range make it quite clear. In the past, Tom Farella sold fruit to a number of wineries and kept some for his own label. Farella recently agreed to lease the entire vineyard to Realm. As part of this arrangement, Farella will buy back some fruit for his own wines, although the future availability of Farella fruit for other wineries remains to be seen. But back to the Farella wines. The two Cabernets I tasted for this article, the 2015 and 2010, are both superb and show why this site is so highly coveted.
