Owner Calogero Statella recently bought 4,000 square meters of Etna vines, an acquisition that stands out for its three rows of pre-phylloxeric vines. (The estate previously owned a whopping one hectare of vines!) Though Famiglia Statella was founded only in 2016, it has quickly risen to the level of Etna’s best red producers; it probably could not have been otherwise, given that Statella has been the winemaker at Etna’s famous Tenuta delle Terre Nere since 2008 and clearly knows a thing or two about Etna’s terroirs, grapevines and wines. The newly released Etna Rosso reviewed in this report is another superb wine from this estate.
