Emmanuel Darnaud is the son-in-law of Bernard Faurie. Generally speaking. Darnaud's wines show more extroverted character than those of his father-in-law. Fans of the Faurie style won’t find it here but the wines have definitely become more restrained over the years and now show more poise and a somewhat less flamboyant, fruit-driven style than in the past, which I consider a positive. The Saint-Joseph Lieu dit Dardouille is sourced from a 1.7 hectare site on granitic soil in Tournon that was the source for Faurie’s outstanding Saint-Joseph Vieilles Vignes. Most of the wines were planted in the 1930. Darnaud definitely did them justice in 2016.
