Rudi Herman and son Christian are certainly better known abroad than they are in Germany. Not only is over 85% of their production exported, but their focus on noble late harvest Rieslings is not what brightens the eyes of domestic clients. In fact, they essentially make no dry wine, concentrating instead on the delicate balance of slightly sweet Rieslings, which are the Mosel’s unique sales proposition, and their Kabinetts offer great value for money. While 2013 is perhaps not quite as brilliant as some of their previous vintages, there is not a wine in the line-up that I would not enjoy drinking.
