Jean-Pierre Meffre represents the 12th generation to watch over the family domaine, which was established in 1702. The 13th generation being passed the baton is formed by Julie, daughter of Jean-Pierre and Martine, and her husband, now winemaker, Christian Yves Carré de Lusançay. The domaine owns 34 hectares of vines across the region, with 12 in their home village of Gigondas. Today, the current offerings are from 2017, 2016 and 2015, as the domaine likes to release the wines at their leisure, sometimes quite late. Large, neutral oak barrels are the workhorses in the cellar, recently joined by clay amphoras, which have been popping up all over the place in Gigondas. Whole cluster influence is important here, especially for the entry-level Origine bottling, which makes up around 80% of the domaine’s total Gigondas production.
