Philippe Engel, who says he produced "near the maximum" in 1999, described the vintage as very easy to vinify, with rather low acidity. The malos, normally early in this cellar, were finished in January of 2000, and the wines, except for the Vosne villages which was bottled in September, were still aging on their lees, not yet racked.
