I remember trying to converse with Anne Morey about her 2017s last year over the din of construction work outside her cellar in Meursault. Thankfully, the workers had long packed up their tools. “I think 2018 will be a vintage of the connoisseurs," the winemaker opined. "They need attention in order to see the "totality" of the wine. I started the picking on 1 September for the whites and 4 or 5 September for the reds. It was a good vintage for whole bunch - but there was no space in my cellar! The malolactic fermentation for 2018 was quick, so I did slightly less bâtonnage. We always mature the wines for two winters, apart from the Bourgogne Aligoté." Readers should note that at the time of my visit, Morey's Monthélie and Pommard Les Grands Epenots had just been racked that day and therefore not tasted.
