Emmanuel Lanier-Garde, sales manager, shows me through their 2021s since Colin is busy in South Africa, where he owns the Topiary winery in Franschhoek. Indeed, the Cape is the love of his life, and it would not surprise anyone if he eventually relocated there. The next chapter of his life is already taking place, his holdings now divided with his Simon Colin and temporarily having exchanged wineries sites. “It was a tough year in the vineyard,” Lanier-Garde tells me. “The big news is that everything is now matured in 500-liter barrels instead of pièces. Philippe was buying more and more each year so that the wood does not overpower the wines. The snag is in filling the barrels in a small vintage and that some wines have to be matured in 100% new oak. We started the picking on 21 September. We now have 11 wines in the range, but since Remilly was completely frosted, there’s ten this year.”
