With yields down dramatically in 2016 (45% to 50% for Chardonnay, but 65% to 70% for Pinot Noir), Philippe Colin began harvesting very early but then took his time, picking parcel by parcel over a period of two weeks. He told me that he expected the wines to show a hot-vintage character, like 2003, but now finds them to be “surprisingly drinkable.” He also said that he’s happy to have been able to make all of his cuvées, noting that “some people blended their tiny premier crus.”
