Sisters Marie-Andrée and Marie-Christine Mugneret had a tough harvest in 2010. For starters, the December frost wiped out a hectare of Vosnes villages just behind the winery. The vineyard has been replanted and will be used for the Bourgogne until it reaches the age necessary for it to once again be part of the villages bottling. Overall production is 22,000 bottles versus the more normal 34,000. As for the wines, well, they are magnificent. The same holds true for the 2009s, which I will report on in the next issue.

"It was cold during the harvest, with a bit of sun and a north wind blowing," noted Marie-Andree Mugneret. "There was even a bit of frost at the end of September, and our fingers were cold during the mornings. We had tiny grapes due to a lot of millerandage, and the crop level turned out to be even smaller than we thought it would." The Mugneret sisters practice a fairly gentle vinification, punching down the cap once a day during the tumultuous part of the fermentation, then less frequently during the second half. They do only remontage during the last two days of the fermentation.
