Julien Barrot has dabbled with white wines in the past, but never at a truly commercial level -until now. His 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Pure is composed solely of Clairette, and it’s an auspicious first effort for the domaine, showing distinct energy and clarity, which is the direction that Barrot has been taking his outstanding red wines in recent vintages. At this point, he only has a half-hectare of white vines, so for the time being, this will not be an easy wine to find.
