Alain Meunier told me that he eliminated 15% to 20% or more of his fruit in 2011, mostly due to underripeness.Potential alcohol levels were in the decent 11.8% to 12.5% range, and the wines were chaptalized between a half and a full degree.Meunier told me he did much less pigeage than usual in 2011 and relied more on remontage (usually it's the other way around here), as the skins were less ripe.He told me that the skins and seeds were riper in 2010, and that the tannins in 2011, not surprisingly, are more taut and upright.Still, he added, there's not a huge difference between 2011 and 2010."Both vintages have energy."While he describes the 2010s as a bit riper than the 2011s, he added that the earlier vintage brought slightly lower grape sugars.
