Here is a new grower for Vinous, Jérôme Fornerot, whose small domaine in the heart of Saint-Aubin is worth looking out for. His ancestors can trace their roots in the village back to 1618, when Jeahn Fornerot married Philiberte Genin. Jérôme Fornerot qualified with a BTS from the Lycée Viticole in Beaune and worked alongside his parents until 2004. Their holdings include 16.5 hectares in total, although on this occasion, I focused on his whites only. Currently, he has to work out of two or three separate buildings around the village, but a new winery is under construction that will bring everything under one roof. Fornerot does not appear to be a winemaker who craves the limelight or fame; instead, he is content working out in the vineyard and letting the wines do the talking. He told me that he started the harvest on August 20 and that he has a slight preference for 2019 over 2020. Nevertheless, I really appreciated the tension and freshness in his 2020s, and the terroir expressed in his wines that had recently been bottled. I look forward to returning to this address in the future.
