Not the fraud-buster Laurent Ponsot of Morey-Saint-Denis, but the lesser-known Jean-Baptiste Ponsot, whose wines I have admired for a decade now. If you want Rully from the top drawer then this should be one of your first ports of calls. He has extended the barrel maturation in recent vintages, thereby lending his wines a little more girth and depth. The Rully Molesme evinces assiduous winemaking, the subtle reduction enhancing this wine like “you-know-who” in Meursault, except this Rully is much, much cheaper than “you-know-who’s”!
