Laurent Lignier has made immense strides in recent years, along with his father Hubert who sadly I did not see this year. Usually he pops his head in, although at 83-years old he has earned the right to take it easy. Perhaps the headline this year is the launch of a new cuvée, part of an ongoing trend to parse out a specific plot and vinify it separate (cf Domaine Larmarch, Jean-Marie Fourrier and Duroché.) The first vintage was actually in 2017. "It is an homage to my grandparents, Henri and Marcelle, Hubert's parents, who bought the vineyard in 1944," Lignier was the muscle but Marcelle was the brains! It is called Cuvée MCMLV, so-called as it comes from a sélection massale that was replanted in 1955. It is 0.25-hectares in size and in 2018 it was cropped at 25hl/ha, low because it is susceptible to millerandage. It is vinified separately to the main cuvée and it comprises three barrels of which one is new. This vintages uses 30% whole bunch."
