The Pinot Noirs from 2015 are an extremely impressive set of wines, showing a suave marriage of ripeness and finesse with the balance and structure to reward cellaring. Veronique Drouhin told me that the key to success in this hot vintage was "to watch the ripeness of the grapes very carefully through the season or else there could be an issue of sugars going up too fast and too high." Based on how the resulting wines show I'd say that such a danger was averted and Drouhin said that much credit had to be given to well-timed rains in the late summer. It was also beneficial to experience a dip in temperatures in the second week of September that helped to preserve acidity “which is why there’s usually brighter character to them than the deeper, darker and richer 2014s,” she added.
