Rémy Chauvet worked alongside Christophe Delorme for many years. He has been upholding the high winemaking standard here since the passing of Delorme in 2015 at age 52. If anything, now, I detect a bit more polish to the wines. I consider Reine des Bois to be consistently among the handful of Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s top bottlings, which is certainly the case with the estate’s 2019s and 2018s. (I also had the chance to try the recently bottled 2020s, and they are gorgeous.) I have had excellent luck aging these wines over the years. I recently enjoyed an elegant, if fading bottle of Reine des Bois from the infamously horrific 2002 harvest, one of the most difficult vintages in the region in generations.
