I tasted this year with Patrice Rion brother Christophe, who is taking over more of the winemaking duties here as Patrice pursues his own negociant venture and domain. Christophe described the '99s as well-structured wines with strong red fruit character. Grape sugars in the 11.5% to 12.5% range were roughly similar to those of the previous year, though the acids were higher in '98. Still, Rion added, 1999 produced Vosne-Romanees that tend to finish with an edge of tannins and acids.
