Domaine Chante Cigale was established in 1874. Today, the property owns 45 hectares of vines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The wines from this large, historic estate were solid, if not often thrilling, until Alexandre Favre, took charge in 2002. Favre was only 20 years old at the time. That rain-soaked, disastrous vintage turned out to be a true baptism by fire. The 2019s here are probably the most impressive set of wines that I have yet had from Favre. The first time bottled, all-Grenache 2019 Pi was among the most memorable wines I tasted from the vintage. It’s sourced from 40-year-old vines planted in the prized Pignan lieu-dit. Sadly, only 1,400 bottles were made, so if you see it, grab it.
