I won't play the same record and blather on about Amélie Berthaut leading the way in Fixin. You should know that already. Berthaut's holdings have increased thanks to family inheritance in the recent years. That will reach 18-hectares since 2019, which she told me "is way enough". There is a lot of work currently being undertaken at the winery with the implementation of new vats and reception. "We picked the whites on 31 August and then began on 3 September, finishing mid-September," she told me. "We have alcohol degrees from 13.0% to 14.5%, though the latter was blended into the Fixin Village. The yields were good, though not as good as 2017, around 15% down depending on the vineyard. But it was better than 2019. I think they don’t need a long time in barrel, so we have already bottled some of the small cuvées that were the most reductive. We'll bottle not too late, around December or January." A couple of cuvées had been racked and were not available to taste, but Berthaut continues to lead the way in Fixin in terms of quality, not just among her Premier Crus, but also at the entry-level.
