“I lost 80% of the harvest in terms of white,” winemaker Antoine Jobard tells me, “around 10hl/ha on average. Both the Premier Cru and Village Cru were affected. You just have to accept it. There is no Puligny-Montrachet Village due to the frost. I started the picking on 18 September, and the health of the grapes was not bad as there wasn’t too much rot. The whites have been racked once, and they will be bottled in January.”

This is an excellent range of whites from Jobard, who’s clearly learned a lot from his father François, who crafted some wondrous wines back in the day. The reds, which comes from his acquisition of Domaine André Mussy, still need a bit of work compared to the whites, though, as I mentioned to Jobard, his Pommard Village punches above its weight and surpasses some of his Premier Crus.
