This is a fabulous set of wines from Detert. The Garrett's family's historic vineyard is basically tucked into the western border of To-Kalon. One of the signatures of Detert is an emphasis on Cabernet Franc. Relative to Cabernet Franc in Napa Valley and other parts of the world, the Detert Francs are more wines of place than the truest expressions of varietal character, but they are fabulous in their own right. Some or most of that may be attributable to the age of the vines, the oldest of which go back to the late 1940s. Regardless, Detert is making wines of real distinction and class that are well worth checking out.
