In 2011 Winemaker Nile Zacherle opted for short cold soaks, fast and hot macerations as the skins were thin and therefore degraded more quickly than normal, pretty much the opposite of 2012, where grapes were far healthier and longer cold soaks and fermentations were the rule. Rackings were kept to a bare minimum in 2011, and the wines are also bottled a little earlier than normal. Overall, the 2012s impress for their aromatics, tension and balance, while by contrast the 2011s are simpler and decidedly more medium in body.
