Dana is among the estates that brought in most of their 2022s after the worst of the heat had subsided. Winemaker Chris Cooney gave the 2022s 17-24 days on the skins, quite a bit less than the 30-35 he favored in 2021. The 2022s turned out quite well. The nascent 2023s are quite promising, while the 2021s, now all in bottle, are superb. Dana fans will note the addition of a new wine from Montagna on Pritchard Hill.

This is a compelling set of wines from Dana Estates. Yields were just one ton per acre in 2021, the result of drought conditions plus considerable damage from the 2020 fires, which took out irrigation lines (only Helms was irrigated in 2021) and also resulted in the loss of vines at Lotus. Like so many wineries in Napa Valley today, Dana has gradually shifted to an approach that favors more freshness than was common in the early days. The 2022s here are quite impressive. Longtime winemaker Chris Cooney added that these were the latest blends the estate has done.
