Winemaker and owner Peter-Allen Finlayson was away when I called in to taste his wines at Gabrielskloof, but Finlayson manages both estates with great success. I asked whether any of the Crystallum cuvées were touched by rain and was told that two or three blocks that usually go into the Peter Max were impacted. They conducted a light extraction, one pump-over a day, during the maceration of 3 to 4 weeks. There are some lovely wines here, and not least, there is a marvelous Cuvée Cinema that offers just a little more backbone than the others.
