Cousiño Macul has an illustrious history in Chile, with the family tree including presidents, prestigious diplomats and one of the country’s founders. The estate, located on what were the outskirts of Santiago in the 19th century, was the home of the country’s first modern winery. Today, the vineyards of Peñalolén are surrounded by gated communities, while its underground stone and mortar caves are the coolest place to be in the city in summer. The caves can be visited, as can the facilities where the Cousiño Macul still make Lota, a Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend. The house’s main operation is now in Paine, where most of the wines are produced. They have made the Antiguas Reservas line since 1927. Finis Terrae brand was launched in 1994 among the first modern wines of Chile. The Head Enologist is Rosario Palma Corrales.
