If I had to think of a single word to describe Corliss, that would be “Classy.” Corliss functions more like a First Growth Bordeaux than your typical Washington State winery. No expense is spared, and no corners are cut in the quest to create the absolute highest quality product vintage after vintage. In addition, the wines are held back an extra two years in bottle to ensure that the expression that a customer receives is closer to its optimal drinking window. These are easily 15- to 10-year wines. This portfolio is focused mainly on Red Mountain fruit, except the Blackrock Vineyard on the eastern edge of the Yakima Valley. Frankly, I was amazed to hear, especially with the track record Corliss has established, that entry to the mailing list is still open. This article features the 2019s, which will not be released from the winery until the fall of 2024. For Corliss fans, make sure to check out their other project, Tranche, located in the foothills of the Blue Mountains, east of Walla Walla. Tranche is focused on being more experimental and open to several different varieties but also more affordable and immediate. These wines are spectacular and have medium-term cellaring potential.
