This is a solid set of wines from Convexity, a new venture headed by hedge fund veterans John Meriwether, Eric Rosenfeld and Chi-fu Huang. Winemaker Steve Matthiasson sources fruit from a variety of vineyards in Napa Valley. The Convexity wines are made in an attractive, middle of the road style by Napa standards, which means they are a bit more opulent than the wines Matthiasson makes under his own label. Convexity is the entry-level wine, Numbers Game is the mid-tier offering, while Liar's Poker is the top of the line Cabernet Sauvignon. Convexity is still in an early phase of its life. Readers should expect flashy, ripe Cabernets that capture the exuberant, full-throttle side of Napa Valley.
