The bad news here is that Morgan Clendenen was only able to make a single viognier from the 2011 vintage, the Sanford & Benedict. "Everything else, which was all at higher altitude, got frozen out in the winter," she told me. The good news is that she has an impressive set of pinot releases coming on line. "I figured that it would take me about five vintages to really get comfortable enough with pinot to put a full program into effect and here we are," she said. She added that she's most comfortable with the older California clones but also likes 114, which is one of the original Dijon clones, "for the complexity it can deliver here."
